Obituary

Emil C. Kalinay, 68, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in rural Toledo. Visitation will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Emil was born on August 13, 1944 in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Charles and Blanche (Hlas) Kalinay.
He graduated from Toledo High School in 1962.
Emil served his country in the U.S. Army from 1964-1967.
On April 14, 1978, he was united in marriage to Carol Higginbotham at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Emil was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Toledo American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and coyote, and mushroom hunting.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Joan Kalinay; his parents-in-law, William and Bernice Higginbotham; two brothers-in-law, Roger Higginbotham and Ed Diggins.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Toledo; his siblings, Bernice Diggins of Marshalltown, Bernie Kalinay of Toledo, MaryAnn Kalinay of Grand Island, NE, Betty (Gene) Vesely of Toledo, Rose (David) Hendrickson of Brooklyn, and Marlene (Don) Paustian of Toledo; his brother-in-law, Randy (Alicia) Higginbotham of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.
