TAMA-Emma Anna Hanus, 98, of Tama, died Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 10:30 AMat Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Paul Rendall officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be Monday, August 9, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Emma was born September 22, 1911, in Irving, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Cuda) Formanek.
She graduated from Belle Plaine High School.
On October 12, 1936, she was united in marriage to Charles G. Hanus at the Tama Methodist parsonage. Emma was a member of the Reformed Baptist Church in Tama. She was very devoted to reading the Bible and Christian books. Emma did a lot of traveling, spending many winters in California and Georgia. She loved dancing, especially to Polkas and Schottisches.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles in 1989; a son, Eugene; a grandson, Kurt McCord; two brothers, George and Edward Formanek; and a son-in-law, Jerry Wilcox.
Survivors include her children, Sharlene (Howard) McCord of Meadow Vista, CA, Betty (Robert) Melvin of Brunswick, GA. and Carol Wilcox of Belle Plaine; seven grandchildren, Sabrina Lane, Diane Brown, Michael Wilcox, Mia Hipkins, Bret McCord, Linda Owen and Treece McCutcheon; fourteen great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be directed to the Reformed Baptist Church in Tama.
