TOLEDO-Erma Noreen Wilhelm, age 90, a resident of Carrington Place in Toledo, died there on Friday, September 19, 2008 following a short illness. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Clair Hein officiating. Private interment will be at Alice Cemetery in Conrad.
Erma Noreen Wilhelm was born on September 24, 1917, in rural Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Lillie (Powers) Clark.
She attended Liscomb consolidated school and graduated from Conrad High School. She continued her education at the Evangelical Hospital School of Nursing in Marshalltown, graduating in 1939.
In 1939, She married Kermit Wilhelm. They lived in Marshalltown for five years before returning to Conrad. He passed away in 1971. In 1982 she married Jerry Hardgrove and they resided in Tama. He passed away in 2000.
During Erma's nursing career, she was employed at the Evangelical Hospital and Mercy Hospital in Marshalltown, and several area Doctor's offices. She retired from the Iowa Veterans Home in 1982, and later did volunteer work at Bethesda Nursing Home in Toledo.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Toledo. Erma enjoyed poetry and in her younger years liked to golf.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her two husbands; a son Roger Wilhelm; and a sister Selma Finley.
Survivors include her daughter Nancy Greever of Omaha, NE; one grandson Michael Greever of Omaha, NE; two nieces, Kathy Shore and her children Rusty and Nicki, and Jackie Ohrt; and one nephew John Finley and his son Donnie.
A memorial fund has been established.
