TAMA-Esther Seleana Marvin, age 84, of Altoona and formerly of Tama, died on Wednesday, August 27, 2008, in Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 30, 2008 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Friday, August 29, 2008 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Esther was born on March 31, 1924 in Grundy Center, Iowa, the daughter of Harry L. and Emma (Brady) Hansen.
She graduated from Toledo High School.
In 1942, she married Bernard L. Marvin Sr. and they later divorced. In 1957, she married Charles Robert Marvin. Esther retired after twenty years from Kiowa Corporation as a machinist. Her hobbies included sewing, crocheting, bowling and shopping.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles in 1998; two daughters, Carol Marvin and Siretta Blocker; one son, Dennis Marvin; one grandson, Charles Marvin IV; one great-grandson, Joshua Stevens; three brothers, Alfred Hansen, Jack Hansen, Harry Hansen; and one sister, Lorraine Kriegel.
Survivors include four children, Kay (Bob) Stevens of Des Moines, Bernard Jr. "Butch" (Debra) Marvin of Tama, Deb (Louis) Taylor of Tama, Sheryl (Jim) Collinson of Toledo; nineteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald Hansen of Marshalltown; one sister, Zona (Donnie) Clark of Marshalltown; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
