Esther Florence Timm, 99, passed away Good Friday, April 7, 2023 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama with Pastor Catherine Burroughs officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in rural Tama. Visitation will be held Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.
Esther was born on October 12, 1923, in Adams, Nebraska, the daughter of Herman William and Mary Ona "Leona" (Hobson) Schmutte. She moved to Iowa in January 1927. Esther attended rural schools and graduated in 1941 from Tama High School. She then taught country schools from 1941 to 1945 in Tama County.
On April 7, 1945, she was united in marriage to Glen Timm at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They farmed near Garwin for fifteen years and in 1960 moved to the Timm home farm south of Tama. They retired in 1989 after fifty-two years of farming, and moved to Toledo. Esther was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Tama. She was very active as a volunteer in many organizations which included, 4-H leader for the Columbia Climberettes for fifteen years, Howard and Columbia Township Women's Farm Bureau Club which she held various offices, President of the Tama County Women's Farm Bureau along with various other offices, Tama County CowBelles, Tama County Porkettes, Maple Grove Cemetery Association, Tama County Republican Women, and Council of Aging. Esther received the Volunteer of the Year award from Governor Branstad. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes. Esther loved to cook, garden and sew, making a quilt for each grandchild.
Survivors include her children, Darold Timm of Mingo and Sandra Chandonia of Toledo; grandchildren, Jennifer (Philip) Flattre of Chandler, AZ, Bradley Timm of Mingo, Jeff (Sarah) Timm of Hartwick, Jared (Kimberly) Timm of Queen Creek, AZ, Michael (Alyssa) Timm of Pavillion, NE, Stacy (Dusty) Hauser of Grinnell, Tiffany (Tim) Feisel of Traer, Rodney Timm of Toledo, Lindsey (Dusty) Bevins of Dalton, MN, Jeremy (Virginia) Chandonia of Round Rock, TX, Aimee (Darin) Blocker of Toledo, and Justin Chandonia of Toledo; great-grandchildren, Charlotte Flattre of Chandler, AZ, Kassianne Timm of Des Moines, Tanner Miller of Keystone, Conner, Aidan, Devin, Lucia and Logan Timm of Hartwick, Trinity, Connie, Dylan and Kendyl Timm of Queen Creek, AZ and Kelsey, Jason and Audrey Timm of Pavillion, NE, Clayton (Megan) Blocker of Hiawatha, Carlee Feisel (Cody Norton) of Fairfield, Chloe Feisel of Traer and Conway Feisel of Traer, Jessica (Anthony) Wilson-Healy of Cedar Rapids, Jacob Timm of Toledo, Lyanna, Riley and Addilyn Bevins of Dalton, MN, Cheyenne Blocker (Julian Ramon) of Garland, TX, Skyla Blocker, Abigail Smiley and Braylynn Blocker of Toledo, Ashley and Megan Chandonia of Round Rock and Tristan, Timm, Tucker and Trevor Chandonia of Toledo; great-great grandchildren, Lauren and Elizabeth Blocker of Hiawatha, Hendrix Ramon of Garland, TX, Bentley Stechcon of Chelsea and Jersey Blocker of Toledo; niece, Elaine Schmutte of Chelsea; nephew, Ron (Mary) Timm of Toledo.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Glen on March 25, 2006; one son, Gerald Timm; baby sister, Blanche Agnes Schmutte; brother, Harold Schmutte; daughter-in-law, Ellen Timm.
Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama.
