Evelyn M. Stump was born on February 14, 1923, in rural Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Joe and Julia (Vajnar) Blazek. She lived in the Poweshiek/Tama county areas her entire life and married Harold G. Stump on August 26, 1940. During their fifty-seven years of marriage, they owned and operated a dairy farm and in 1965 opened up Shady Hills Campground. Running the campground was one of the highlights of their life along with dancing the polka, visiting with friends and enjoying the family. For several years, Evelyn was the supervisor of the food service for the Tama Community School District. Evelyn's hobbies included sewing, gardening, and baking. She and Harold were avid supporters of school activities, were members of the First Methodist Church in Tama and active participants in the Iowa Campground Owner's Association. After retirement in 1994, they moved to Toledo, Iowa, where they continued to enjoy dancing with friends and playing cards. After moving into town, Evelyn joined the Garden Club and Mother's Home Circle.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold in 1997; and one brother, Charles Blazek.
Survivors include her daughters, Jerilyn (Bob) Bunting of Marion, IA and Connie Strayer of Cheynne, WY; son-in-law, Bob Strayer of Laramie, WY; granddaughters, Gina Moenk of Cedar Rapids, Vicky Livingston of Omaha, NE, Sara Devereux of St. Louis, MO, Andrea Strayer-Jackson of Seattle, WA and Leshia Nagel of Hiawatha, IA. At the time of death, she was the proud great-grandmother of seven great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
