TAMA- Evelyn Mae Sindelar, age 66, of Tama, died on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center due to a short illness. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastoral Associate Tom Christoffer officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, January 27, 2007 from 10 AM until service time at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home.
Evelyn Mae Sindelar was born on November 5, 1940, in rural Elberon, the daughter of Edward and Elsie (Wisner) Zeman.
She graduated from Tama High School in 1959.
She was united in marriage to Steve Evans on June 4, 1960 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. They had one daughter, Gina. They later divorced. She married Ben Sindelar on October 8, 1983 at the Gospel Center Church in Tama. Ben passed away on March 30, 1996.
Evelyn worked at South Tama Intermediate as a playground supervisor for fifteen years from 1978-1993. She then worked at Super Valu as a clerk for eight years.
Evelyn was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed listening to Bohemian music, going to dances with Ben and playing a good game of cards. Evelyn loved taking care of her home and enjoyed decorating.
Preceding her in death were her father; a stepfather, Fritz Sieck; and her husband, Ben.
Survivors include one daughter, Gina (Wes) Hoskey of Montour; her mother, Elsie Sieck of Tama; two brothers, Edward (Teri Bryant) Zeman of Santee, CA and Eugene (Charlotte) Zeman of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Josh, Bryan, Cory, James and Jesse; her mother-in-law, Blanche Evans of Traer; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
