Florence Mary Junker was born on March 12, 1940 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, the daughter of Paul and Adeline (Yeager) Kulis. Shortly after her birth, the family returned to her father's hometown of Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Florence graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1958 and worked at Hardin County Conservation Service. Her childhood best friend, Mary Ellen Tordoff, invited her on a double date with Norm Card and Norm's friend, Alfred Junker. Florence and Alfred wed on June 11, 1960. They lived in Iowa Falls and Alden until 1967 when Alfred took a job with the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad and they moved to Toledo, Iowa. Florence and Alfred raised three sons, Vernon, Vincent, and Daniel, and lived in Toledo for the rest of their lives. Florence worked for the South Tama County School District for several years and was an active member of St. Patrick's Parish.
She is survived by her sons, Vincent (Sarah) and Daniel (Tracey), daughter-in-law Julie, grandchildren Nicholas, Andrea, Elizabeth, Kyle, Jennifer, Emily, Erik, Angela, Patrick, and Joseph, brothers Frank (Val) Kulis, Jim (LuAnn) Kulis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Adeline Kulis, husband Alfred Junker, son Vernon Junker and a brother, Joseph in infancy.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Premier Estates of Toledo for the excellent care they provided to Florence for her last 12 years. Florence was also blessed with many friends in the Tama-Toledo area who frequently stopped to visit her which had a tremendously positive effect on her quality of life. Florence was an inspiration to many with her positive approach to life in spite of the debilitating effects MS gradually but relentlessly took on her body. She never let the disease defeat her spirit and with her passing she is eternally free of the prison that her earthly body had become.
Memorial contributions are appreciated to the Exceptional Persons, Multiple Sclerosis Services, P.O. 4090, 760 Ansborough Ave., Waterloo, IA 50704.
