Obituary

Forrest Orla Davis, 89, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at the Iowa City VA Health Care System. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo with Pastor Jill Mack officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Monday, June 13, 2022 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at the church.

Forrest was born on March 15, 1933, in Dysart, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Florence (Head) Davis.

As a young man he was active in basketball, football, choir and band. Forrest graduated from Toledo High School in 1952.

On June 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Colleen Ferneau in Toledo, Iowa. This year they celebrated their sixty-seventh anniversary. Shortly after they were married, Forrest served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War where he was drafted in 1955. He was stationed in Granite City, IL and West Virginia.

Orla spent a majority of his working years selling men's clothing. He was always a snappy dresser. Orla started out as a salesman for Dwight's Menswear in Toledo and went on to have his own business, Davis Clothiers in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Orla was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo. His family was his number one activity in life. Orla volunteered at the Lincoln Highway Park in Tama and was a handyman and helped at Sweet Repeats in Tama. He and Colleen enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino playing on his favorite machine. He also enjoyed game shows and the TV show "Everybody Loves Raymond."

Survivors include his wife, Colleen; four children, Dawn (Bob) Van Hamme of Tama, Drew Davis of Coralville, Dana (Don) Hanson of Cedar Rapids and Darin (Melissa) Davis of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, soon to be ten; one sister, Marlene Eernisse of Toledo; one brother, Marc (Rita) Davis of Iowa City; brothers-in-law, Tom (Melody) Ferneau of Culbertson, NE and Dennis (Kathy) Ferneau of Tama; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Faye Evans and Floriss Adair; brothers-in-law, Gordon Evans, Gerald Eernisse, Larry Skala, Frank Adair, Conrad Ferneau and Richard Ferneau; son-in-law, LaVerne Roth; and step-grandson, Matthew Hanson.
