TOLEDO-Frances Mary Wobeter, age 95, a resident of Carrington Place in Toledo died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the care center following a short illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, January 19, 2009 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Sunday, January 18, 2009 from 4 – 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Frances was born on October 8, 1913, in Howard Township in rural Toledo, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Zmolek) Kucera. On October 1, 1935, she was united in marriage to Celestine Joseph "C.J." Wobeter at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. Frances was very active in helping on the farm until her and C.J.'s retirement. She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was in the Rosary Society, KD Lodge, and CCW. Frances enjoyed sewing, baking, gardening, and was an excellent cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Ann; four brothers, Philip, Tony, Joe, and Frank Kucera; and two sisters, Anna Hlas, and Mary Kucera.
Survivors include her husband, C.J. Wobeter; eight children, Larry (Liz) Wobeter of Montrose, CO, Sr. Celeste Wobeter of Notre Dame Sisters, Omaha, NE, Tony (Gaylen "Gay") Wobeter of Iowa City, Paul (Paulette) Wobeter of Toledo, Leo (Linda) Wobeter of Vinton, Peter (Berleen) Wobeter of Toledo, Annie (Jeff) Brill of Ham Lake, MN, and Debra (Jeff) Heil of Haverhill; eighteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Genevieve Kucera of Toledo; two sisters-in-law, Mamie Kucera, and Lillian Kucera; a brother-in-law, Ed Wobeter; special cousins, Karel and Marie Sodomka of the Czech Republic; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
