TAMA-Frank Duhachek, 89, of Tama, died Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama where he had resided since March of this year. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama with Pastor Thomas Dowling officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 from 5 to 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Frank was born on November 20, 1921 in Otter Creek Township, the son of Frank and Mary (Rebik) Duhachek. He moved to the family farm west of Tama at age two and resided there until November 2008.
He married Marian Betz on April 26, 1943. Frank and Marian were the parents of four children; Carol, Janice, Linda and Richard. Frank farmed his entire life. The farm is recognized by the Iowa Department of Agriculture as a "Century Farm" in 2009. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama and the Tama-Toledo Lions Club. He served on the Tama County Zoning board, ASC office board and was a member of the Pioneer Cemetery restoration group. Frank loved to travel. He was an avid gardener. As a farmer, he enjoyed raising fat cattle and hogs. His favorite season was fall harvest. And his favorite meal was any time Family was there. Any one meeting Frank was greeted with a smile, "That was Dad."
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
Frank is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, Marian of Tama; his four children, Carol (Bob) Brecht of Silverdale, WA, Janice Custer of Tama, Linda (Rick) Bostian of Edmond, OK and Richard (Nancy) Duhachek of West Des Moines, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
