TOLEDO-Frank James Sevcik, age 96, a resident of Sunny Hill Care Center and formerly of Toledo, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 in Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center due to a short illness. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday, March 17, 2008 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Frank James Sevcik was born on July 11, 1911, in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of Rudolph and Mary (Kubik) Sevcik.
He attended Carol Township #4 country school.
On February 1, 1937, he was united in marriage to Blanche Posekany at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Chelsea. They farmed north of Toledo and he retired from the farm he was born on after eighty-three years.
Frank was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Catholic Order of Foresters, KD Lodge, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Farm Bureau. He was also a Township Election Trustee and involved with the Tama County Extension Office. Frank's hobbies included traveling, reading and carpentry.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Blanche in 1998; two sisters, Hermina Novotny and Lucille Sebetka; one granddaughter, Darla Sevcik, and one grandson Randy Sevcik.
Survivors include one daughter, Rita (Marc) Davis of Iowa City; three sons, Mark (Doreen) Sevcik of Naperville, IL, David (Ardis) Sevcik of Frisco, TX, and Larry (Rita) Sevcik of Toledo; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one sister, Agnes Yanda of Toledo; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
