TOLEDO- Frank A. Waterbeck, age 92, of Toledo, died Monday, January 25, 2010 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. Funeral Services will be held Friday, January 29, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Dewey Grimes officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Thursday, January 28, 2010 from 4-7 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Frank was born on September 15, 1917, in rural Tama, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Pauline (Suchanek) Waterbeck.
He attended Columbia School #6 in rural Tama County and graduated from Tama High School in 1936.
Frank farmed with his father until 1944 when he married Ellen Schmidt. They made their home in the Tama area and to this marriage were four children. Frank retired from farming in 1965 and moved to Toledo. He married Albina Buresh in 1966. He worked as an electrician and later at the Tama County Courthouse until 1982. After retirement, he had a woodworking shop and did auxiliary police work.
Frank was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama. He was previously the sexton for Oak Hill Cemetery and also volunteered with the Tama Ambulance. Frank spent much of his time woodworking and repairing furniture. He was well known for his work with oak and cedar lumber. In his spare time, Frank enjoyed fishing, camping and visiting with people.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wives, Ellen and Albina Waterbeck; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Survivors include his children, Judi (Ron) Farrell of Kansas City, MO, Joyce (David) McDonnell of Atkins, Jerry (Anne) Waterbeck of Marshalltown and Jeanne (Ron) Trickett of Altoona; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Helen Townsend.
A memorial fund has been established for cancer research.
