Obituary

Franklin Wayne Bro, 87, of Toledo, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Franklin was born on November 2, 1931, in Exira, Iowa, the son of Niels and Laura (Bork) Bro. His parents both were immigrants of Denmark.

He graduated from Exira High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) in Cedar Falls.

Frank served his country in the Navy Reserve.

On July 27, 1951, he was united in marriage to Ora Mae Lorenzen at the Presbyterian Church in Toledo. Farming was the love of his working career. He also worked for the Northwestern Railroad and was a lineman for Iowa Electric & Power. Frank was a former Conservation board member and received a Farm Bureau award for "Outstanding Young Farmer." He used to sing in the community Men's Chorus and he and Ora Mae sang at many funerals and weddings over the years.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Ora Mae of Toledo; five children, Jill (Tony) de Laubenfels of Mt. Vernon, Erin Bro (Mark Pennell) of Marshalltown, Matt (Deb) Bro of Gilbert, AZ, Paula (Todd) Lober of Gilbert, AZ, and Brett (Brenda) Bro of Toledo; his son-in-law, Paul Bartelt of Forest City; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one brother, Ronald (Mary) Bro of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one daughter, Marcia Bartelt; one son in infancy, Nathan Christian; one granddaughter, Cindi Hall; three sisters; and seven brothers.

Memorials may be directed to Grace Community Church in Toledo.
