TOLEDO-Fred Lawrence Kajer, age 74, of Toledo died Sunday October 15, 2006 in the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a lengthy illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with A.J. Kajer, officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in rural Toledo. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home from 4 to 8 PM. The family will be present from 6 to 8 PM.
Fred was born on June 17, 1932 in rural Tama, Iowa the son of Fred J. and Beulah (Hand) Kajer. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1950. He served his country in the US Army. On August 17, 1958, Fred married Dorothy Becker in Mason City, Iowa. He farmed north of Toledo. Fred was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, Farm Bureau, and the Toledo American Legion Reining-Fredrich Post #72. Farming was Fred's life and he deeply enjoyed his work.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Alfred Kajer, and a sister Debra Kajer.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy, two sons Curt (Mary) Kajer of Toledo, and Craig (Lindsay) Kajer of Toledo; two daughters Carol Dolezal of Gilman, and Cathy (John) Reinertson of Marshalltown; four grandchildren Jamie Dolezal, Natasha and Andrew Kajer, and William Kajer; a sister Annabelle (the late Lilburn) Klenk of Brooklyn; a brother Ronald (Linda) Kajer of Toledo; and a sister-in-law Marlene Crabtree.
A memorial fund has been established.
