Fred E. Yuska, 96, of Marshalltown and formerly of Le Grand and Colo passed away Friday, March 6, 2015 at Southridge Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Marshalltown under the care of Care Initiatives Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown with Father Donald Czapla as celebrant. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 9, 2015 from 4-6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 6 PM.
Fred was born on June 11, 1918, in Clutier, Iowa, the son of Emil and Stella (Chaska) Yuska.
On September 30, 1940, he was united in marriage to Bertha Kalinay at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier. Fred was a farmer and also did custom baling and trucking. In 1972, they moved to the Marshalltown area. He was employed by Marshalltown Instrument, retiring in 1980. Fred was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Cedar Valley Polka Club, Polka Club of America and Senior Citizens of Marshalltown. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and gardening, especially roses. Fred's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandson.
Survivors include five sons, Larry (Marilyn) Yuska of Montour, Don (Carol) Yuska of New Bern, NC, Randy (Teri) Yuska of Blue Grass, IA, Gary (Gail) Yuska of Council Bluffs and Mike Yuska of Omaha, NE; one daughter, Pat (Marty) McCoy of Toledo; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Evelyn Hansen of Reinbeck; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Irene Coughenour of Colo; .
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Bertha on June 29, 2001; one brother, George Yuska; and one grandson, Boyd Elliott.
