Obituary

Freddie Francis Kubik, 85, of Clutier, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 10:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Church in rural Clutier with Father Ray Atwood as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Friday, October 16, 2015 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Rosary being recited at 7:30 PM.

Freddie was born on May 31, 1930 in Tama County, Iowa, the son of Fred J. and Eleanor (Zmolek) Kubik.
He attended country school at Carroll #3 and then graduated from Traer High School.
Freddie married his sweetheart, Shirley Podhajsky, on November 26, 1957 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. A son and two daughters joined the couple. Freddie assisted his dad and his brothers with their farms and later after his marriage had his own farming operations. In 2014, his family received the Century Farms award. He first learned to farm with a team of horses and soon a tractor was enjoyed. He farmed with used equipment and never had the comforts of a cab. In his spare time, Freddie enjoyed farm auctions and recently house hold auctions, playing Czech/ Polka music and bowling. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association where he served as a trustee for many years. Freddie was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier, later the Immaculate Conception Church in Clutier and recently St. Paul Catholic Church in Traer.
Survivors include his wife of almost fifty-eight years, Shirley of Clutier; one son, Michael Kubik of Clutier; two daughters, Lori (Curtis) Fuller of Solon and Lisa (Jesse) Lain of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Adam Fuller of Iowa City and Ashley Fuller of Madison, Wisconsin; and two brothers, Dr. Rudy Kubik of Independence and Robert (Sandra) Kubik of Springfield, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews around the world.
Preceding him in death were his parents; grandparents; two brothers, Leonard and Tony Kubik; and one sister, Georgiann Uchytil.
