Garry Lee "Sweeney" Davenport Jr., Ne-no-swi-ne-ni-wa, 49, of Tama, passed away, Sunday, April 1, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Visitation will be held Monday, April 2, 2018 from 11 AM until 2 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Monday evening at the Fox Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Michael Keahna as speaker.
Garry was born on November 14, 1968, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Garry L. Davenport Sr. and Marian J. (Wanatee) Davenport.
He attended school at South Tama and West Des Moines Valley.
On September 3, 1994, he married Teresa Manfull in Des Moines, Iowa. Garry was currently employed at the Meskwaki Bingo & Casino Hotel in the engineering department and had previously worked at Messer Distributing in West Des Moines. Sweeney enjoyed watching racing both Sprint cars and NASCAR, loved going to concerts and was a big fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Chicago Blackhawks. He loved spending time with his grandsons and family.
Survivors include his parents, Garry Sr. and Marian; his wife, Teresa; children, Karac (Gabbi), Courtney (Dennis), Kaleb, and Carissa; grandkids, Kaeson, Koen, and Becker; siblings, Sophilia, Jeanine, Jolene, Garika (Victor), Garrick (Laurie), Sahara, and Garren (Jessica); stepfather, Don Wallace; several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harvey Sr. and Bertha Davenport, Frank and Adeline Wanatee; sister, Geraldine; nephew, Sylvester; mother-in-law, Jane Manfull; one uncle; several aunts and cousins.
