Gary Gene Slick, 55, of Cedar Rapids died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Sunday, May 12, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Morgan Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Saturday afternoon and a Native American Church Service Saturday evening at the Myron Wanatee residence on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo is assisting with the arrangements.
Gary was born on June 6, 1957, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Wilbur and Eloise (Rave) Slick. He graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Hawkeye Tech before a twenty-five year career at Bob Mickey Chrysler Dodge.
On November 14, 1999 he was united in marriage to Michelle Van Dresar in Las Vegas, NV. Gary enjoyed fishing, camping, The Minnesota Vikings, and spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Michelle (Van Dresar) Slick of Cedar Rapids; son, Joseph Slick of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Tracy (Dan) Mesmer of Bettendorf, Melissa (DD) Rizzio of Cedar Rapids, and Danielle Brockmeyer of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Sydney Slick, Amery and Kyla Mesmer, Eli Rizzio, and Cayden Groves; brothers, Steve (Pat) Slick of Waterloo, and Duane Slick of Providence, RI; sister, Lenora Slick of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Paul Owen Slick and Brian Kent Slick; and one sister, Clarice Joy Slick.
