Obituary

Gene William Struve, 77, of Toledo, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at his home under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2026, from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Gene was born on July 1, 1949, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Hazel Struve.

Gene graduated from South Tama High School in the Class of 1967.

On February 24, 1968, he was united in marriage to Judy Jesina at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama. Gene was a welder at Chemetron Rail Welding Company in Tama, and then worked in maintenance for Certainteed in Grinnell. Before retiring, he worked in HVAC at Scharnweber’s in Toledo.

Gene was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles in Tama. He liked to fish, camp, and tinker around in the garage on his cars and various projects.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-eight years, Judy of Toledo; son, Keith (Mary) Struve of Tama; daughter, Gina (David) Fisher of Marshalltown; eight grandchildren, Kailyn Struve (Kelsey Kiburz), Kelbie Struve (Rachelle McDonald), Justin Taylor (Leah Mann), Derek Taylor, Drew Taylor, Megan Balmer (Mike Ellis), Lindsey Smith, and Mallory (Devan) Mann; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rick Struve of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
