TOLEDO –Genevieve Miriam Kucera, 97, of Toledo, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Genevieve was born on March 8, 1915, in Howard Township, rural Toledo, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Zmolek) Kucera.
She was a housekeeper for several priests over her working career. She liked to garden and bake traditional Czech foods. Genevieve was a very devoted member of the Catholic Church where she was active in the Rosary Society and K.D. Lodge.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers, Philip, Anthony, Joseph and Frank Kucera; and three sisters, Anna Hlas, Mary Kucera, and Frances Wobeter; and nine nieces and nephews, Mary Ann Herink, Vaclav Kucera, Marjorie Kucera, Agnes Kucera, Judy Thill, Dorothy (Sister Rita) Kucera, Philip Hlas, Frankie Hlas and Mary Ann Wobeter.
Survivors include thirty-one nieces and nephews, Vitus Kucera, Rosie Kvidera, Sr. Rose Mary Kucera, Joseph Kucera, Philip Kucera, Mae Steffen, Ernest Kucera, Tony Kucera, Carolyn Massey, Gerald Kucera, Joanne Vlasak, Nancy Schmitt, Bonnie Bergan, Terry Kucera, Elenore Mack, Emil Hlas, Stanley Hlas, Albin Hlas, Mark Hlas, John Kucera, Mary Jane Rinkleff, Mark Kucera, Susan Gorder, Lawrence Wobeter, Sr. Celeste Wobeter, Tony Wobeter, Paul Wobeter, Leo Wobeter, Pete Wobeter, Annie Brill, and Deb Heil; one hundred thirteen great nieces and nephews; and many great-great nieces and nephews.
