MONTOUR- Genevieve Rose Shaw, age 81, of Montour died Wednesday, October 31, 2007 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama due to a lengthy illness. A Funeral Liturgy will be held Monday, November 5, 2007 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be Sunday, November 4, 2007 from 2-5 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service at 5 PM.
Genevieve Rose Shaw was born on April 16, 1926, in Marion, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Frances (Kalina) Nowotny.
She graduated from Clutier High School and attended one year at the State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Genevieve taught country school until her marriage.
She was married to John C. Kupka for twenty-seven years and they had four children. They later divorced. In April of 1978, she married Robert Shaw at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama.
Genevieve worked in various restaurants and owned and operated a restaurant in Chelsea and The Lantern Café in Tama.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Her hobbies included gardening and yard work. She loved pets of all kinds.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Jack; four brothers, Eugene, Otto, Richard, and Russell Nowotny.
Survivors include her husband, Robert of Montour; two sons, Larry (Reva) Kupka of Baltimore, MD and Russell (Judy Banes) Kupka of Tama; one daughter, Karen Gugliemetti of Belle Plaine; two step-daughters, Lorinda and Lisa Lacko; eight grandchildren, Jim (Karla) Novotny, John (Jackie) Novotny, Jason (Jayme) Kupka, Shane Kupka, Dustin (Allison) Kupka, Ryan Kupka, Jolene Kupka, and Kristy (David) Timm; twelve great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
