Obituary

George Young Bear III, "Na no me ne ki e ska ke" 55, of Tama, passed away Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Monday, January 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake will be held Sunday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

George was born on September 23, 1962, in Denver, Colorado, the son of George Young Bear Jr. and Ernestine Roberts.

George served his country in the U.S. Army. He attended college at United Tribes Technical College. George was a member of the Drum Dance Society. He had a quick sense of humor as well as many hobbies and interests throughout his life. Those interests included reading anything and everything, listening to music, writing poetry and gardening. George had a special interest in trees as well as a lifelong loyalty to the Denver Broncos.

Survivors include his mother, Ernestine Keahna; brothers, Craig Young Bear Sr. (Mai), Chad Keahna, Douglas Cadotte, and John Roberts; sisters, Kristina Young Bear (Tom), Nina Young Bear, and Mary Young Bear; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Young Bear Jr., nieces, Rachel and Leila Young Bear; and nephew, Neil Young Bear.
