Gerald Eugene Youngman, 81, of Urbandale and formerly of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale under the care of Unity Point Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Friday, September 30, 2016 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Gerald was born on January 24, 1935 at home in rural Toledo, Iowa, the son of Carl and Delia (Poole) Youngman.
He graduated from Toledo High School.
On October 25, 1953, he was united in marriage to Darlene Mattingly at the First Methodist Church in Toledo. Gerald farmed for the majority of his life and then worked at Ace Hardware. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lion's Club and previously the Jaycees. Gerald was a sports fan, enjoying football and coached for several years. He loved the Hawkeyes. His greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Darlene of Urbandale; his children, Jeff (Sue) Youngman of Tama, Joni (Bud) Willis of Brighton, CO, Jan (Tanya) Youngman of Normal, IL, and Jill (Ken) Hagge of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Jason; one brother, Raymond Youngman; and one sister, Bernice Karcher.
A memorial fund has been established.
