Geraldine Allen Thomas, 89, of Tama, IA, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother was called home by her heavenly father on February 18, 2016.
Geraldine was born on a farm 8 miles east of Anamosa on May 19th, 1926 as was her twin sister Arlene, to Cora Butterfield Allen and Sumner Sherman Allen. She attended school in Cedar Rapids after 12 years of age and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1944.
Gerry (as she was known), married Robert O. Thomas on October 9, 1944 in Tacoma, WA as he was in the service at Ft. Lewis there. To this union four (4) children were born, Larry, Steve, Kathy, and Becky. They were fortunate to have 62 years of marriage together.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and active in Women's Lydia Circle at Tama. She was a member of the Tama P.E.O. Chapters, Oak Hill Cemetery Association, and Tama-Toledo Country Club. Gerry was a lifelong resident of the Tama-Toledo area and worked alongside her husband in the family construction company Thomas Company, Tama. Besides her family, her joy was traveling and seeing the world with her husband.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Kathy, infant granddaughter Stephanie, seven sisters – Maxine Shield, Marjorie Ward, Norma Mitchell, Betty Blake, Beatrice Dudek, twin Arlene Reed, Shirley Bransford, and two brothers – Paul Allen, and Maynard Allen.
Surviving her are 3 children – Larry (Deb) Thomas, Tama, IA, Steve (Barb) Thomas, McKinney, TX, Becky (Stan) Zeutenhorst, Brooklyn, IA, 6 grandchildren – Paige (Mark) Herbsleb, Grimes, IA, Scott (Lori Jo) Thomas, Lake Villa, IL, Kevin (Shayla) Thomas, Tama, IA, Todd (Jamille) Thomas, Prosper, TX, Zachary (Shannon) Zeutenhorst, Des Moines, IA, Zoshua (Maria) Zeutenhorst, Cedar Rapids, IA. And 14 great grandchildren - Logan Hersleb, Luke Herbsleb, Mallory Herbsleb, Russell Thomas, Callen Thomas, Tiffany Thomas, Braydon Zeutenhorst, Brody Zeutenhorst, Kaycee Zeutenhorst, Anya Zeutenhorst, Mila Zeutenhorst, Jace Thomas, Brooke Thomas, and Tristan Thomas.

A visitation is scheduled from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday February 21, 2016 at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home 209 E. 7th Street in Tama, IA. Funeral services will be held on Monday February 22, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church 700 Harmon Street, Tama, IA. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church in Tama.
