OELWEIN-Glenda Strand, age 56, of Oelwein died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Oelwein with Pastor Tim Schoef officiating. Private interment will be held at a future date. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 from 4 to 8 PM at Geilenfeld Funeral Home in Oelwein. Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home, Tama-Toledo and Geilenfeld Funeral Home, Oelwein are handling the arrangements.
Glenda was born on September 30, 1952 in Oelwein, Iowa the daughter of Mardell Frazer Loux. She graduated from Oelwein High School in 1970. Glenda was united in marriage to Dale B. Strand on September 26, 1970 at First Baptist Church in Oelwein. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Glenda provided childcare services out of her home to area families for sixteen years, and another eleven years for her grandchildren. She loved to spend time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. Glenda also enjoyed camping, knitting, family get togethers, and her dogs. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Oelwein.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
Survivors include her husband Dale of Oelwein; two children, Keith (Angi) Strand of Maynard, and Kristi (Jeremy) Meyer of Tama; five grandchildren Kegan, Jacob, and Ella Strand, Jonathan and Jenna Meyer; and one sister Becky (Bernard) Saathoff. Also surviving are brothers and sisters in law; nieces; nephews; and many dear friends.
A memorial fund has been established.
