TAMA-Harvey Eugene Powers, 66, of Tama, passed away, Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. A Memorial Visitation will be held Saturday, April 30, from 1 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
Harvey was born on March 1, 1945, in rural Montour, the son of Lawrence A. and Erma O. (Judge) Powers.
He attended South Tama Schools until his senior year and then graduated from East Marshall.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force.
Harvey owned and operated Harv's Carpet in Tama and also worked construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting and bowling. Harvey sponsored several bowling teams. He was an avid Hawkeye football fan. Harvey loved all animals, especially cats. He also took a lot of pride in his garden.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Joyce Fowler and Judy Powers; and a sister-in-law, Frances Powers.
Survivors include two brothers, Wendell Powers of Le Grand and Donald (Joyce) Powers of Montour; a brother-in-law, Richard Fowler of Tama; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
