TAMA-Hazel Mary Van De Walle, 95, of Tama, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Hazel was born on November 28, 1916, in rural Tama, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Inez (Cory) Metz.
She graduated from Tama High School.
On May 15, 1946, she was united in marriage to John F. Van De Walle at the St. Patrick's parsonage in Tama. Hazel was a homemaker and worked at the Shoe Store in Tama from 1967 until it closed. She then worked at the Rexall Drug Store in Tama until she was in her 80's. Hazel was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama, the Federated Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, John; and one brother, Clifford Metz.
Survivors include her son, Leonard (Susan) Van De Walle of Tama; one step-grandson, Eric Schnabel of Dubuque; and one nephew, Edward Metz of Galesburg, IL
A memorial fund has been established.
