TOLEDO-Helen Mildred Kacer, 91, of Toledo passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa Hospice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, May 20, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 5 – 7 PM at the church with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
On November 6, 1945, she was united in marriage to Louis Kacer at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama. The couple made their home and farmed in Columbia Township for more than forty-seven years.
She helped on the farm until they moved into Toledo in the fall of 1992. Helen was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, where she was also active in the CCW in her earlier years. She enjoyed tending to her plants and flower garden and collecting rocks. She also liked to read and write letters and watch the squirrels and birds from her window.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Walter and Mary (Prochaska) Campbell; her husband, Louis "Louie" in 1999; and one brother, Ralph Campbell in 2007.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Kacer (and her husband John Kiraly) of Bowling Green, KY; her son, Jim Kacer (and his wife Carolyn) of Toledo; one grandson, Michael (and his wife Wondan Hong) Kacer of Iowa City; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a good friend, Alma Peters.
A memorial fund has been established.
