TAMA – Helen Julia Kensinger, age 98, a resident of Grandview Acres in Toledo, formerly of Tama, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center following a short illness. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, April 9, 2007 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Helen was born on November 30, 1908 in rural Poweshiek County, the daughter of John Phillip and Alice (Carrol) Duffy. She attended country schools in Poweshiek and Tama Counties and graduated from Mount Saint Clare High School in Clinton in 1928.
On September 12, 1934 she was united in marriage to Ronald Raymond Kensinger in Tama. After moving to What Cheer in 1938, Helen ran a variety store there. She retired in 1970 and moved to Tama in 1989. Helen was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the C.C.W.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald, two sisters Gertrude Doyle and Kathryn Belton, and four brothers Luke, Frank, Lyle, and Raymond Duffy.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established. .
