TAMA-Henry Fred Kucera, age 86, of Tama, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Mary Schnepf officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 18 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Henry was born on May 5, 1923, in Buckingham, Iowa, the son of Wesley and Josephine (Bilek) Kucera.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
On August 13, 1943, he was united in marriage to Lilyanna Ramsdell in Waterloo, Iowa.
Hank formerly farmed southeast of Chelsea. He was a member of the Tama American Legion and VFW. He enjoyed gardening and going to the Casino.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Georgia Ann in infancy; and four brothers, Jim, Jack, Joe and Lee Kucera.
Survivors include his wife, Lilyanna of Tama; one daughter, Barbara Sauer of Tama; four grandsons, Billy (Aurelia) Benda of Malcom, Donnie (Glynis) Benda of Toledo, Mark (Serena) Benda of Marshalltown and Benjamin Benda of Tama; and six great-grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
