Obituary

TAMA- Herbert Youngbear, age 79, of Marshalltown and formerly of Tama and Cedar Rapids, died on October 27, 2006 in the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown due to a lengthy illness. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama with Homer Bear Jr. as speaker. A Traditional Wake was held Saturday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.
Herbert Youngbear was born on March 3, 1927 on the Meskwaki Settlement, the son of Frank and Mary (Davenport) Youngbear.
He graduated from Tama High School.
Herbert served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He previously worked in construction. He loved to fish and hunt, liked fixing cars and enjoyed Pow wow camping.
Preceding him in death was his parents; his wife, Virginia Eagle Youngbear; five brothers, Frank Jr., Eugene, Stanley, Wilfred, and Chris Youngbear; one sister, Freda Blackcloud; and one son, Emery Walker.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony (Kay) Waseskuk of Montour and Dennis Youngbear of Montour; three sisters, Erma Lasley, Alma Ward and Hilda Youngbear all of Tama; several grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
