Homer Bear Jr., 72, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. Traditional Graveside Services will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Wake will be held Wednesday evening at the Bear Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement.

Homer was born on July 16, 1950, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Homer and Dorothy (Waseskuk) Bear Sr.

Homer served his country in the U.S. Navy.

On September 22, 1977, he married Vicki Lasley on the Meskwaki Settlement. Homer retired from the Meskwaki Public Works.

Homer enjoyed his family, community and culture. He loved spending time with his grandkids and attending their sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki of Tama; six sons, Jarvis (Jessica), Hayden (Francine), Garrett "Joe" (Sarah), Bryant (Gea), Hollis and Cordell all of Tama; one daughter, Landis of Tama; four sisters, Karen Morris, Aldean Keahna, Ardelia Davenport and Jeanette Moore; one brother, Adolph Bear; and numerous grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Arlene Kay Bear; four brothers, Alvin Bear, Gaylord Bear, Russell Derrick Bear and Benjamin Bear.
