Obituary

MONTOUR-Howard M. Bro, 95, of Montour, passed away Monday, September 12, 2011 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa Hospice. Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 19, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church Montour Center with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery in Montour. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18, 2011 from 2-4 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Howard was born on January 6, 1916, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, the son of Niels and Laura (Bork) Bro.
He graduated from Exira High School and received his BA from the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
He served his country in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
On March 29, 1942, he was united in marriage to Muriel Tvedt in Dunbar, Iowa. Howard enjoyed woodworking, teaching it in his early years and as a hobby his entire life. He also farmed. Howard was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour.
Preceding his death were his parents; a son, Paul Howard Bro; his brothers, Art, Arnold, Ingward, Edwin, Manville and Mervin Bro; and a sister, Sigrid Crovo.
Survivors include his wife, Muriel of Toledo; three sons, John (the late Daniele) of Neville-Sur-Mer, France, Mark (Melody) Bro of Montour and Paul (Ruth) Bro of Terre Haute, IN; his grandchildren, Gael Bro, Samuel, Christopher, Laura and Eric Bro and Nora and Johannah Bro; two brothers, Frank (Ora Mae) Bro of Toledo and Ron (Mary) Bro of Cedar Falls; and two sisters, Velma Moen of Austin, MN and Leona (Tom) Whitty of Belmond.
