MARSHALLTOWN – Ila Ruth (Waychoff) Novak, 97, of Marshalltown, formerly of Montour, Tama, and Toledo, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2012 in Marshalltown under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour with Pastor Brian Oliver officiating.
Ila was born on August 30, 1915 in Dedham, Iowa, the daughter of Oliver L. and Lelah Agnes (Young) Waychoff.
She graduated from Viola Township Consolidated High School.
On November 30, 1933, she married Hilmar A. Seastrom in Jefferson, Iowa. He passed away in 1979. On January 9, 1982, she married William Novak in Tama, Iowa. Ila was a member of the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour, Rebekah Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. Ila was devoted to caring for her home and family. She will be remembered for: world class cinnamon rolls, great pies, a wry sense of humor, seamstress skills, playing cribbage, square dancing, her devotion to her family and friends and her constant selflessness.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Hilmar in 1979, and William in 1996; a son, Jack D. Seastrom in 2010; Jack's wife, Caroline in 2000; a brother, Dale Waychoff in 2004; and a step-daughter, Connie McIntyre.
Survivors include two children, Merl (Luz) Seastrom of CA, and Ruth Sjostrom of Montour; two step-children, Collette Novak Seda of Victor and Kevin Novak of Des Moines; five grandchildren, John D. Carr of Tama, Katie Seastrom Russell of CA, Scott Seastrom of AR, Jolene Carr of MO, and Merl Seastrom Jr. of CA; five great-grandchildren, Darius Carr, Alisha Kapayou Carr, Mitch Russell, Max Russell, L'Ila Holliday; and three great-great grandchildren, Nola Carr, Loman Carr, and Nova Carr.
Ila requested memorials be given to Living Faith United Methodist Church in Montour in lieu of flowers.
