Iola “Asamisega” Snow, 92, of Tama, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at Mary Greeley Hospice Services in Ames. A Traditional Wake will be held Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Eagle Clan Ceremonial Building on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama. A Traditional Graveside Service will be held Thursday, October 1, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Meskwaki Cemetery on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama.

Iola was born on December 4, 1933, on the Meskwaki Settlement in rural Tama, Iowa. She was the daughter of William Snow of Winnebago, Nebraska, and Sophia White Swan.

She graduated from Tama High School.

Iola was known for her feistiness and tenacity, which kept her with us for so long. Her love for children led her to a job in daycare on the Settlement for some years, where her presence touched the lives of many Meskwaki children. She later worked for the Iowa State Extension teaching the tribal community about nutrition, food preparation, and preservation. A lifelong gardener and green thumb, she surrounded herself with plants. Iola later worked at the Meskwaki Casino, where she also enjoyed spending time playing slots and Bingo, her favorite pastimes. In her later years, she then worked at the Meskwaki Settlement School, taking pride in keeping it clean for staff and students, many of whom got to know her well.

Survivors include Stephanie (Troy) Snow, Avis Bear, Wesley Bear, Krista (Julius) Snow, Brian Snow, Sophia, Tenoch, Iolene, Trinity, Phoenix, Jade, Sara, Jovani, Zaynah, Keki, Avea, Deidrich, Brianna, and Desmond, and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; adopted sister, Jennifer; adopted sons; daughters; nieces and nephews.

Iola was preceded in death by her mother, Sophia White Swan; father, William Snow; siblings, Elaine Seymour, Robert Seymour, Irene Seymour, Frank Seymour, and Harold Snow.
