RAYMOND-Irene Jeanette Carlson, age 59, of Raymond, formerly of Tama, died Thursday, January 29, 2009 at her home following a lengthy illness. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Kimball Avenue United Methodist Church in Waterloo with Pastor Denny Coon officiating. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5-6:30 PM Tuesday at the Church. There will also be a Memorial Visitation on Wednesday, February 4 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, February 5 at Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama at 11:00 AM with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse and Pastor Denny Coon officiating. Private interment will be held at a future date.
Irene was born on March 21, 1949 in Marshalltown, the daughter of Kenneth and Marie (Ludwig) Van De Walle. She graduated from South Tama County Community High School. She was united in marriage to Paul James Carlson on September 21, 1968 in Tama. Irene had worked as a medical transcriptionist for the last ten years at Cedar Valley Cancer Center. She was a member of Kimball Avenue United Methodist and was active in the church choir. In her spare time she enjoyed cross-stitching, gardening, playing the piano, and reading.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and her mother, Marie Van De Walle.
Survivors include her husband Paul of Raymond; father, Kenneth Van De Walle of Tama; five children, Gary (Abby) Carlson of Tampa, FL, Diane (Matt) Kesl of Tama, Linda (Joe) Clark of Atkins, Sharon (Steve) Dieke of West Des Moines, and Sheryl (Dan) Thornton of Johnston; and twelve grandchildren.
