Jackie Benda Meeks, 65, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Jackie was born on March 29, 1960, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Violet (Flowers) Benda.

She graduated from South Tama in 1978 and got an Associate Degree at Kirkwood Community College in accounting.

On December 29, 2001, she was united in marriage to John Scott Meeks in Tama, Iowa.

Jackie worked in Office Administration for twenty-five years at GTE and then Verizon. She was also formerly a dedicated employee at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown working in staffing.

Jackie rescued Dachshund dogs and faithfully donated money to the Tama County Humane Society. She was known for her tie-dyed t-shirts. Jackie enjoyed attending rock and country concerts and loved to read, watch cooking shows and try new foods. Jackie also liked to travel. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. Jackie had a great sense of humor and was very witty. She will be remembered as a very kind and generous person. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Survivors include her brothers, Dennis Benda of Toledo, and Bruce (Kitty) Benda of Marshalltown; one niece, Rhiannon (CJ) Dall; one great niece, Zayleigh: one great nephew, Maverick; her father-in-law, John Dennis Meeks of Arizona; and one brother-in-law, Terry Elfritz of Waterloo.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Scott Meeks; sister, Sharon Elfritz; and mother-in-law, Phoebe Meeks.
