Obituary

James G. Doyle, 91, of Tama passed away on Friday morning, March 31, 2017, at Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama, Iowa, due to complications from pneumonia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Monday, April 3, 2017 from 4 - 7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with a Vigil Service following at 7 PM.

James Garland Doyle, was born in Tama, February 24, 1926, the son of James F. and Mildred (Bent) Doyle. He attended Tama high school, leaving in his senior year in 1944 to join the Navy at age 17 during WWII. He was stationed in the Admiralty Islands in the South Pacific, and was discharged in 1946. After the war, he returned to high school and graduated with the Class of 1947. He was also a member of the Army Reserves following his service in the Navy. On July 21, 1951, he married Doris O'Toole at St. Malachy's church in Ardon, IA. They were the parents of four children. He retired from Fisher Controls in 1986 after 27 years. He also farmed, had a large garden which he shared with family and friends. After he retired, he enjoyed watching old movies, reading and having morning coffee with his friends at Jiffy. He was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Church, a 70-year member of the Enright-Schrader American Legion Post (frequently serving in the color guard in his younger years), the VFW and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He particularly enjoyed the Honor Flight trip to Washington DC, which he took with his son Dan, in October 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris; children, Kathleen Doyle (Charles) Puffer, Diane (Mike) Ward, Daniel (Brenda) Doyle, and Susan Crain (Craig) Schroeder; grandchildren, Gabe (Vicki) Doyle, Elizabeth (Matt) Crandon, Alex (Katie) Ward, Kelli (Ross) Pirruccello, Megan (Nick) Brim; great-grandchildren, Paige, Rachel, and Claire Doyle, Austin and Lexie Crandon, and Reid Pirruccello; and sister-in-law, Marj Doyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Alan and son-in-law Mike Crain.
Memorials may be directed to Eastern Iowa Honor Flight.
