TOLEDO-Jan Ridout, age 66, of Toledo, died Friday, March 6, 2009 at Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center in Marshalltown. She was a hero and inspiration to many from the example she showed throughout her courageous battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Christ United Methodist Church Worship Center in Toledo. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Sunday, March 8, 2009 from 2-6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Jan was born on August 21, 1942 in Iowa Falls, the daughter of Harry and Vesta (McCracken) Voss. She was a graduate of Aplington High School and Ellsworth College. She was united in marriage to Dick Ridout on August 21, 1963 in Aplington. Jan was a very active member of Christ United Methodist Church in Toledo, where she sang in the choir and was involved in the youth group. She was also a member of PEO and the Tama-Toledo Country Club. Jan enjoyed hiking, traveling, playing golf, crafts, and boating. She also enjoyed spending time at the cabin.
Preceding her in death were her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Dick of Toledo; one son, Kirk (Amy) Ridout of Tama; one daughter, Jill (Austin) Chamberlain of Iowa City; and five grandchildren, Betsy, Meg, and Brooke Ridout, Lucy and Libby Chamberlain.
