CLUTIER- Jane Svoboda, age 65, of Clutier, died Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier with Father Jerry Blake as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 2-5:30 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Clutier Chapel. A Rosary will begin at 6:30 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Clutier with a Vigil Service at 7 PM.
Jane was born on November 3, 1944, in Toledo, Iowa, the daughter of Ambrose and Bernadine (Doran) Kearney.
She graduated from North Tama High School and attended two years of business school at the Business Institute of Technology.
On March 31, 1964, she was united in marriage to Stanley J. Svoboda in Clutier, Iowa. They farmed for many years. Stanley passed away on June 11, 2000. Jane was formerly a State Representative for six years and owned and operated a waste disposal service. She was a "jack of all trades". She was a member of the National Society of Foresters and Lions Club. Jane was a person who was always busy. She enjoyed snowmobiling, traveling, dancing and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Stanley; a son Jeffrey in 1969; and a brother, Daniel Kearney.
Survivors include four children, a son Brian D. (Robin) Svoboda of Barrington, IL, a daughter, Kelly M. (Gary) Kretlow of Ankeny, a son, Jason T. (Jodi) Svoboda of Elkridge, MD, a son, Nicholas J. Svoboda of Clutier; five grandchildren, Paige, Jacob, Noah, Caleb and Benjamin Svoboda; three sisters, Bernadine (Harold) Schuett of Tama, Kathryn (George) Kunch of Garwin and Mary Jo (Ronald) Brandt of Clutier; one brother, Ambrose (Karen) Kearney of Garwin; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established.
