Obituary

TAMA-Jean R. Dunlap, age 88, of Tama, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 24, 2010 at 1:00 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Rev. Bobby Shomo officiating. Interment will be private at a future date at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Friday, April 23, 2010 from 4 – 6 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Jean R. Dunlap was born on January 27, 1922, in rural Tama, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ruby (Varner) Lauderdale.
She graduated from Tama High School and received her undergraduate and Teacher Certification at the Iowa State Teachers College.
On May 31, 1944, she was united in marriage to Douglas D. Dunlap in Bakersfield, CA. Jean was a teacher and librarian for Toledo and the South Tama School District. She was a member of Alpha Psi Educational Sorority, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of Eastern Star. She enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking and traveling.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her husband, Douglas in 2001.
Survivors include two daughters, Terri (Daniel) Heller of Tama and Dea (Lee) Podhajsky of Richland, WA; four grandchildren, Cheryl Podhajsky, Chris (Kerri) Heller, Jennifer (Adic Horton) Heller and D.J. Heller; seven great-grandchildren, Kari Podhajsky, Jack and Ben Heller, Tatum Heller, Alyssa, Andrew and Amelia Horton.
