TOLEDO-Jerry Wayne Yanda, 75, a longtime Toledo resident, passed away Monday, August 20, 2012 at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held Friday, August 24, 2012 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, August 23, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
Jerry was born on July 13, 1937, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Lumir and Gertrude (Coye) Yanda.
He attended Garwin Schools and graduated from Toledo High School.
On July 3, 1955, he was united in marriage to Katherine Seidel in Vining, Iowa. Jerry worked for P.C.A. (Caraustar) Paper Mill in Tama retiring after forty-five years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and previously the American Legion. He loved fishing, deer hunting, and football. He also enjoyed playing cards and playing Keno at the casino. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his family and grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Lumir Yanda and Gertrude Yanda Miles; and a step-father, George "Jack" Miles.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Kathy of Toledo; two daughters, Lori (Junior) Carstensen of Chelsea, and Connie (Kim) Fontinel of Tama; two sons, Terry (Dawn) Yanda of Longmont, CO, and RickYanda (Dawn Townsend) of Tama; nine grandchildren, Beth Yanda (Sham Solomon), Lea (Jason) Goossen, Nick (Claire) Carstensen, Gabe Fontinel, Giovanna (Nick) Seitz, Jeff Yanda, Chrissy Yanda, Sean Collins, and Derek Rocarek; four great-grandchildren, Dakota Frank Fontinel, Novalee Fontinel, Isaac Carstensen, and Ayden Jacobson-Olvera; one brother, Larry (Sonia) Yanda of Powersville, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial fund has been established.
