TAMA – Jimmie D. Ward, age 71, of Tama died on Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. Traditional Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, December 25, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Meskwaki Cemetery on the Settlement. A traditional wake will be held Wednesday evening December 24, 2008 at the Ward's residence on the Meskwaki Settlement, rural Tama.
Jimmie was born on February 8, 1937, in Toledo, Iowa, the son of Jim Ward and Anna Mae Blackcloud.
He graduated from Tama High School.
On March 16, 1957, he married Alma YoungBear, in Chicago, Illinois.
He enjoyed working with kids coaching boxing. Jimmie was well known for his Indian Tacos. He enjoyed spending time with his family and took great pride in his monkey collection.
Preceding him in death were his parents; an infant son, Montgomery Ward; and two infant brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Alma YoungBear Ward of Tama; sons, Deron (Shirley) Ward of Tama, James Ward of Tama, Edward Tecumseh of Green Bay, WI, and Aaron (Gayle) Walker of Tama; daughters, JoAnn (Russell) YoungBear of Tama, Ferol Ward of Tama, Jana (Andre) Roberts of Tama, Kimberly Ward of Toledo, and La Quetta (Michael) Ward of Tama; twenty-nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Sharon (Ernie) Mauskemo of Tama and Wanda Kapayou of Des Moines; along with numerous adopted relatives.
