Joan Marie Hobbs, 84, of Toledo, passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. A Memorial Visitation will be held Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 4 -7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Private interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo.

Joan was born on June 19, 1933 in Chester Township, Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Clara (Backen) Frahm. She graduated from Tama High School. She was united in marriage to Gerald W. Hobbs on January 6, 1956 in Princeton, Iowa. Joan was a farmwife and later worked in the office at Cessford Construction in LeGrand. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama and the Tama American Legion Auxiliary. Joan was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother with a heart of gold.

Survivors include her daughter Beth (Gary) Nekola of Chelsea; son, Syd (Cristy) Hobbs of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; five grandchildren, Treye (Heather) Nekola, Ashley (Shaun) Slinkard, Ciara (Brian) Nienhaus, Calvin, and Taylor Hobbs; seven great-grandchildren, Carter and Noelle Slinkard, Sullivan and Dawson Nienhaus, Harper, Hazel, and Hunter Nekola; two sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Hobbs of Gilman and Esther Gross of Colo; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Gerald on October 27, 1999; brother, John Frahm; one sister in infancy; sister-in-law, Sandra Frahm; and two brothers-in-law, Ronald and George Hobbs.

Memorials may be directed to St. John Lutheran Church in rural Tama.
