TAMA-JoAnn A. Novotny, 87, a long-time resident of Tama, passed away June 9, 2010 of Alzheimer's, at The Lakes Nursing Center in Oklahoma City, OK. JoAnn lived in Tama until 2003, when she moved to Oklahoma City to be cared for by her son.
JoAnn was born March 28, 1923, to Joseph and Anna (Kocourek) Moyer in Tama. She was the third of seven siblings in the Moyer family. JoAnn attended Tama High School before marrying Alan "Bud" Novotny on Jan 14, 1943, in Miami Beach, FL. She worked at Kilcoins Variety upon returning to Tama. In 1963, Alan and JoAnn founded and ran Novotny Lumber & Paint until Alan died in 1974. She is survived by son, Mike "Mick" Novotny and his wife Skeeter of Oklahoma City, OK. She was known as "Gma" to grandchildren: Terri Ellen Comer of Anniston, AL and Kara K. Curtis of Oklahoma City, OK; great- grandchildren, Katie Grace and Will Curtis of Oklahoma City, OK. She is also survived by sister, Roberta Burnes of Tama and brother, Robert Moyer of Stockport, IA. She was "Aunt Jo" to many nieces, nephews, and their children for whom she babysat in Tama.
She was a member of St. Patrick's church. Loved by many friends in Tama-Toledo, she will be missed.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband Alan; three brothers, Richard, Donald, and Mark Moyer; one sister Devota Coomer; and her parents, Joseph and Anna Moyer.
Memorial Services for JoAnn will be Sunday, June 20, 2010, at 3:00 PM Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Fran Wall officiating. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Tama. Family will receive friends from 2:00 PM until time of service Sunday at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama
