TOLEDO- John Forest "Jack" Prescott, age 69, of Toledo, died on November 13, 2006 in his home in rural Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice with his family at his side following a brief illness. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at 10:30 AM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Rod Block officiating. Interment will be at a future date at Woodlawn Cemetery in Atkinson, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 15, 2006 from 4-8 PM at the Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
John Forest "Jack" Prescott was born on October 19, 1937, in Bagley, Iowa, the son of Vinal and Alma (Peardon) Prescott.
He graduated from Bagley High School in 1955. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for four years and was stationed in Alaska and San Diego.
His love of life was farming. He farmed in the Jefferson area and moved to this area in 1983 and worked on the Podhajsky farm in Tama County until retirement. He then drove city bus for Marshalltown Municipal Transit part time until retiring in April 2006 due to failing health.
Jack and Eve dearly loved camping and went as often as schedules permitted. He was so proud of his grandkids and visited their children's home in several states until his health failed. He was an avid White Sox fan, Raiders fan, and Iowa State fan and watching any ball game was a favorite pastime.
Jack will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a good friend and loving father, grandfather, brother and husband.
Preceding him in death was his parents; one brother, Bob Prescott; and his stepmother, Electa Prescott.
Survivors include his wife Eve of Toledo; their children, Jack Jr. (Melody) Prescott of Jamesport, MO, Bob (Kathy) Prescott of Goldsby, OK, Mike (Joan) Farrier of Lindsay, NE, Shelley (Bob) Garlick of Alda, NE, Kurtis (Lisa) Prescott of Jefferson, and Leigh (Brian) Fox of Lemont, IL; twenty-six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Dora Prescott of Spring Valley, CA; one brother, Frank (Charlotte) Prescott of Coon Rapids; one step-brother, Dick (Melba) Wilcox of Jefferson; and one step-sister, Betty (Dwight) Middleton of Okmulgee, OK.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
