TOLEDO-John F. Klenk, age 65, of Marshall, Texas, formerly of Toledo died Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Good Shepard Hospital in Longview, Texas following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held Friday, March 13, 2009 at 10:30 AM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 5-8 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.
John was born on May 17, 1943 in rural Tama County, the son of Robert and Marie (Pennell) Klenk.
He was owner and operator of Klenk's Tractor Repair Shop in Marshall, Texas. He had previously worked for George Inman in Tama and operated his own gas station, Klenk's Apco in Toledo. He then worked for Toledo Ford Tractor before moving to Texas. He also drove gas transport for his dad when needed. John was a member of the East Texas Antique Tractor and Engine Association, and the Ford Tractor Collectors Association. He enjoyed farm shows, antique tractor shows, and feeding his wildlife.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two grandchildren in infancy; one brother, Arlen Klenk; and one sister, Pearl Wilkerson.
Survivors include his wife, Marsha Hand of Marshall, TX; his children, Keith (Leslie) Klenk of Shreveport, LA, Jeannie (Mike) Purcell of Macon, GA, Peggy (Peter) Chamberlin of Cottonwood, AZ, and Amy (Kyle) Wilson of Texas; two stepchildren, Debbie and Doug of Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; two brothers, Vernon (Donna) Klenk of Agency, MO, and Evan Klenk of Cedar Falls; three sisters, Arlene (Alvin) Craun of Toledo, Roberta Fricke of Gilman, and La Rue (Steve) Reis of Green Mountain; brother-in-law, Harold Wilkerson of Toledo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial fund has been established.
