John Scott Meeks, 49, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Private Graveside Services will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery in Toledo. Public Visitation will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

John was born on May 22, 1968, in El Cajon, CA, the son of John Dennis and Phoebe (Drottz) Meeks.

John served his country in the U.S. Navy for six years.

On December 29, 2001, he was united in marriage to Jackie Benda in Tama, Iowa. Prior to moving to Iowa, John worked in construction in San Diego, CA, working for his father at Meeks Construction. He most recently was employed at Lennox in Marshalltown. Scott had a passion for rescuing and caring for Dachshunds and Rottweilers. He also enjoyed PC gaming. Scott was a history buff and also liked watching Sci-fi movies. He appreciated all types of music and went to many concerts with his wife and brother-in-law.

Survivors include his wife Jackie Benda Meeks of Toledo; his father, John Dennis Meeks of El Cajon, CA; one brother, Ed Meeks of San Diego, CA; his aunts, uncles, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, niece, nephew, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Phoebe Meeks.
