Joleen Ann Doyle, 74, of rural Gilman and Grinnell, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2023 in Grinnell, Iowa. A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, October 27, 2023 from 4-7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Private Family Service will be held. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.
Joleen was born on December 19, 1948, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Voda (Weaver) Weir. She graduated from South Tama County High School in 1966 and then attended the University of Northern Iowa. Later, she returned to college and graduated from Buena Vista College with a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching in 1990.
She was united in marriage to Michael J. Doyle on February 15, 1969 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together they farmed and raised a family in southern Tama County. They were married for 52 years until his passing in 2021. He was the love of her life and they were life partners in every sense. She also worked for many years as an elementary teacher at South Tama County Schools until her retirement in 2009. She had a passion for teaching and was dedicated to her students.
Joleen was a member of Living Faith United Methodist Church in Tama and P.E.O. Chapter EW in Tama.
Joleen loved the outdoors and working on the farm alongside her husband Mike. She was a hard worker and took much pride in her yard and many gardens. Joleen was an excellent cook and baker who fed her large family well. Many fond family memories were made around the kitchen and dining room tables. She enjoyed staying active, especially swimming which she did her entire life. She also was an avid reader and had a book on her kindle at all times.
Joleen's greatest source of pride was her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was dedicated to her family, always encouraging their success. She taught her family many valuable skills and traditions that will continue on. Joleen will be remembered for her kind, loving nature and positive outlook which she generously shared with her family and friends.
She is survived by her four children, Timothy (Kira) Doyle of Chelsea, Brian (Amy) Doyle of Tama, Julie (Micheal) Thede of Toledo and Nicole (Todd) Upah of Toledo. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Brandon (Emily) Doyle, Mahala (Tyler) Casady, Dalton (Macey) Doyle, Kadyn Doyle, Bostyn Doyle, Mitchell Thede and Mallory (Trevor) Rohach, Wesley Upah, Laurel Upah and Natalie Upah; her great grandchildren, Delta Doyle, Cal Casady, Brextyn, Daxtyn, Koltsyn, Kamari Doyle, and Jackson Rohach; two brothers, Bruce (Jackie) Weir and Rodney (Angie) Weir; brothers-in-law-and-sisters-in-law, Adrian Doyle, Tom and Mary Doyle and Randall Rosenfelder; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Michael; one sister, Charlene Rosenfelder; and sister-in-law, Marlene Doyle.
A memorial fund will be established.
